Uninvited Submission Calls for Gonski Plus Funding Loadings for Disadvantaged Students

An uninvited submission from Save Our Schools to the Federal Government’s selective consultation on the Gonski funding loadings for disadvantaged students has called for the loadings to be increased. Public is Not Invited to Low SES Funding Loadings Review

The Federal Government has confirmed that its review of the low SES funding loadings is not open to the public and is confined to selected invitees. Funding for Low SES Students is Under Threat by Secret and Biased Consultation

Save Our Schools today condemned the Federal Government for secrecy and biased representation of private schools in its consultation on the Gonski funding loadings for low SES students which closes tomorrow. PISA Test Results Prove that Increased Funding Should be Allocated to Disadvantaged Students and Schools

The new PISA international test results highlight the need to implement a new school funding scheme to overcome disadvantage in education according to the public education advocacy group, Save Our Schools. SOS national convenor, Trevor Cobbold, said that the results show that Australia has failed to make any inroad into reducing inequity in education and, if anything, inequity has increased. Independent Panel to Review Private School Registration Process

Save Our Schools has welcomed the appointment of an independent panel to advise the ACT Minister for Education on the review of the in-principle approval and registration process for private schools in the ACT. SOS Convenor, Trevor Cobbold, said the appointment of the panel provides some prospect for a much-needed tightening of the registration process.

Minister Ignored Dept Advice on Demand for Islamic School

Information obtained through a FOI request by Save Our Schools shows that the Minister for Education ignored advice by her department in granting in-principle approval for the new Islamic School to be located in Spence. SOS Convenor, Trevor Cobbold, said that it is spectacular evidence of the Minister’s failure to follow the requirements of the Education Act.

Education Minister Should be Sacked for Turning the Approval Process for New Private Schools into a Shambles

Save Our Schools has called on the Chief Minister, Katy Gallagher, to sack her Education Minister and overhaul the approval process for new private schools in Canberra. SOS Convenor, Trevor Cobbold, said that the Education Minister has turned the approval process into a “shambles” and destroyed any semblance of planning for new private schools.
